A beautiful place: The peninsula is located in the south of Ukraine is a small Russian-speaking area protected against cold temperatures and the high prices of Moscow or Saint- Petersburg.
Where better than in Crimea to learn Russian? Crimea has a subtropical climate and an area of 26 200 km² with varied landscapes (steppes in the west, mountains in the east and countless sand or pebbly beaches all around the coast).
In Crimea there are small and quiet villages and also interesting and lively cities like the popular Sevstopol, Yalta, Simferopol, Koktebel, Sudak and Efpatoria.
Perfect to learn Russian: Even though the peninsula is now part of Ukraine, Russian is the most commonly spoken language. In fact 93 % of the inhabitants consider Russian to be their mother language.
Simferopol, major city of Crimea, is a university city with many faculties where students from all over study. The range of studies is big: medicine, engineering, philology, economics, etc. The faculty of Slavic and Russian languages is in the oldest and best university in Crimea: TNU (Tavriski Nationalni Universitet).
The foreign students learn Russian quickly here: classes are intensive and living in Crimea gives them the opportunity to use Russian in their everyday lives.
A cheap life: Crimea is a small treasure that has only recently appeared on the traveller’s map. This is why the prices are so low.
The cost of studies at university and accommodation is very low. Luckily transport is also very cheap. For example a bus from Simferopol to Sevastopol ( 1.5 hour journey) costs less than 2 euros. Thanks to this, foreigners can do a lot of excursions all around Crimea and discover the peninsula.
A refuge for various cultures: Crimea does not only consist of beaches, steppes and mountains but also has an incredible mix of diverse cultures with a lot of history.
In this 26 200 km ² area we can find Russian, Ukrainian and Tartar cultures, monuments and buildings that remind us the Soviet Union period, Greek and Middle Age fortresses and castles, and much more.
Most popular leisure and free-time activities: Crimea offers a wide range of cultural as well as sport and leisure activities. In the cities there are museums, theaters, festivals and historical monuments. The most popular are aquatic sports, trekking and horse riding. The night life is vibrant, especially in the coastal cities in summer and in Simferopol during the rest of the year.
The universities of Simferopol receive many students of different countries every year.
The foreign students have intensive Russian language lessons: 20-25 hours every week in small groups (maximum 8 people).
It’s possible to take short or long term courses and enrolment can be done in various times during the academic year.
Classes take place from Monday to Friday. There are groups for all different levels.
The students who do the 10 months of intensive classes receive a certificate that allows them to enter Ukrainian universities.
Students live in university residences, in individual or shared rooms with a shared bathroom. There is a kitchen on each floor (about 20 students live on each floor).
